Classic period cut-down Sharps Model 1874 Sporting rifle, .44 caliber, 2-5/8” case, single trigger, 21.5” octagon barrel (35.5” overall with period cut-down butt stock), rear sight long missing, S/N C54053; overallun-cleaned good condition with even brown patina, crisp action, good bore and good wood showing scattered old wear and scratches with pewter forend tip. Accompanied by a 1990-dated factory letter with greatdestination: invoiced on October 26, 1875, to J.A. Lober of Plum Creek Station, Nebraska with notation of original barrel length of 30”. A great looking early Sharps that could have been used to shoot buffalo from theback of a horse, a lawman’s maneuverable big gun to deal with “badmen” visiting the town or as an express gun on the early Union Pacific railroad line that went through the “Station”.
