Historical lot consisting of a large framed oil on canvas of Col. Martin Anderson, Civil War and Indian War Veteran; approximately 34” x 28” overall and finely accomplished; accompanied by an old framed and matted Memorial hand written summary from Lincoln Post No. I, Dept. of Kansas, G.A.R. of Anderson’s life at the time of his death on July 9, 1897. Information is very detailed and fascinating. Some high points included: Anderson was born Sept. 17, 1817 at Columbiana, Ohio. He enlisted in the Union Army at Camp Leavenworth, Kansas on Aug. 29, 1862, and was honorably discharged on Sept. 18, 1865. In 1858, he was elected Probate Judge of Calhoun Co., KS. Anderson was a life-long free state advocate. In 1861, he was a member of the Territorial Legislature and in 1862, a member of the Kansas State Legislature. At the formation of the 11th Kansas Infantry, he was elecdted Captain of Co. B and on Nov. 28, 1863, was promoted to Major, later to be Breveted to Lt. Col.
