Colt U.S. Cavalry SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, dark patina, wood grips, S/N 42076 (NOTE: barrel numbered 1690 and D.F.C.-inspected; see Lot 884 with barrel also factory-numbered 1690); overall good to very good condition with dark patina and scattered light pitting to surfaces, good bore, crisp action, good markings including reverse direction barrel address and overall good grips without visible inspector cartouche from handling and wear. Included with this interesting Cavalry Model are several documents; first is a typed letter dated May 9, 2002, signed by Frederic L. Hulburd indicating this gun, by serial number was acquired by his father, Bud Hulburd around 1919 when he was the engineer on the 110-foot schooner owned by the well-known newspaper baron, E.W. Scripps (schooner named “Kemah”). Bud told Frederic the Colt had belonged to an infamous bandit (that was hung in Florida) prior to his acquisition.
