Colt Civilian SAA revolver, .44-40 caliber, 7.5” barrel, grey patina, wood grips, S/N 41690 (military ordnance condemned frame); (NOTE: see Lot 883 as that barrel is also factory numbered 1690 and D.F.C. inspected); overall good to very good condition with light patina to metal surfaces, good bore, crisp action, good markings and overall good grips. Included with this interesting Civilian Model are several documents including a Colt Factory letter confirming features and noting shipment to Hartley & Graham, New York, NY on March 1, 1880, 50 guns in shipment. Also included in the documentation are an extensive 3-page Kopec letter and a copy of a Rampant Colt Magazine for Spring, 2003, article recounting the information found in Kopec’s letter. The focal point of Kopec’s evaluation of this revolver and the revolver in Lot 883 is that the barrels of both this Civilian Model and Lot 883’s U.S. Cavalry Model have the same factory stamped number “1690” with the Civilian Model being in .44-40 caliber, not .45 caliber as is the case for the U.S.
