Colt U.S. Cavalry SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, dark patina to metal surfaces with scattered pinprick pitting, wood grips displaying partially visible inspector cartouches and the date “1876” on the left side of grips; S/N 31757 (cylinder #1709); overall good condition with a good bore, crisp action, good markings and good grips; accompanied by a Colt factory letter indicating delivery to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt plant on December 8, 1876, 200 guns in shipment. Also included with this lot is an early Kopec letter dated Oct. 16, 1986; Kopec cites the “L.D.” (Lewis Draper) sub-inspector mark on the revolver’s frame and further notes “The occurrence of miss-matched barrels and cylinders in this series is quite common. This was because of the serious problems which occurred during the inspection process in this series. A rather large percentage of parts were rejected during the inspection process because of poor workmanship. It is our opinion that because we do find a greater percentage of miss-matched barrels &
