Colt SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 7.5” barrel, nickel finish, ivory grips, “c” inspection markings and a re-stamped “U.S.” on the left side of the lower frame, S/N 19313, with factory letter confirming caliber, barrel length “not listed”, blue finish, type of stocks “not listed”, shipped to B. Kittredge Co., Cincinnati, OH for Shuyler, Hartley and Graham on June 24, 1876, 50 guns in shipment. Under “Remarks”: letter further states “As noted above, this firearm was shipped as a commercial model. We have no records available to check to see if this was originally a government condemned gun”. Also included are copies of pages from John Kopec’s book “Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers” (pages 161-163) which include an analysis of Serial #19313, where in summary, Kopec opines this gun was a “Buy-back” surplus Militia revolver that were then “nickel plated in brand-new condition, fitted with ivory stocks, and resold following the year of manufacture to B. Kittredge Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio”. He further notes the “c” inspections are for ordinance sub-inspector
