Ornate and impressive pair of Spanish miquelet horseman’s size pistols with magnificent rocco embossed in high relief full silver mountings. Measures 16 ½” overall with 10 ¼” 2 stage barrels with ringed cannon style muzzles of about .65 caliber smoothbore. The locks in barrels are lightly engraved en suite. The pair show hammered relief silver in the form of grotesque face with mustache on the butts extending all the way up the grip. The guards are silver with matching scrolling to borders. The side plate is similarly decorated with silver belt hook, pierced silver fore end band and stock retained and silver tipped ramrods. The fore end shows a small owner’s plaque with initials “A 1” or “A I” engraved upon it. The stocks are purposely plain as to not clash with ornateness of silver. The condition is very good and silver is near fine and is still crisp and not “Rubbed” from over polishing. This cataloger (John R. Gangel) first became aware of this pair of pistols when being sold by noted arms dealer Arthur Yates in the late 1970s to early 80s. Arthur
