Good 19th century American heavy half stock plains gun with heavy octagonal barrel and lock signed Kingsland and Co, Appears to have been converted from flintlock. Kings land and Co locks are used on several well published Kentucky rifles. Barrel is 27 inches long and nearly 1 inch across the flats. Lock and hammer are nicely engraved. Brass mounts include elaborate trigger guard with finger rest, ramrod pipes, crescent buttplate, and reinforce. Horn fore-end cap with wood insert for ramrod. Barrel retains much faded bluing. Lock is crisp does not stay on cock. Half stock with cheekpiece retains much original varnish. This handsome gun even has its original ramrod with worm. 45 caliber smooth bore barrel. A very attractive gun in excellent condition. Estimate: 600-1000
