An engraved and gold inlaid German pinfire double barrel shotgun by D. Sackreuter in Frankfurt a Main. The fine Damascus barrels are inlaid in raised relief gold with the maker’s name with gold lines at the breech. The frame and locks are very well engraved with stag and waterfowl. The hammers are well engraved with scrolls. Screws are engraved as well. Stock of finely sighed checkered walnut with cheekpiece. Checkered fore-end with checkered wood under-lever. Engraved steel buttplate. Steel and horn trigger guard in the Germanic style. The barrels retain considerable original Damascus brown. Locks and frame are French gray with crisp engraving. Wood has considerable original varnish.Action is crisp as new. The bores are excellent and bright showing little use. This is a high grade German pinafore double and most attractive for the systems collector or good 19th century German guns. Estimate: 700-1400
