Outstanding Springfield Officer’s Model Trapdoor rifle, .45-70 caliber, 26” barrel, blued and case hardened finish, in excellent to near mint original condition with original deluxe burl wood stock, cartouche“SWP/1885”. This stunning rifle retains 99%+ original bright blue and case hardened finish that is still very vivid and fiery and just some slight beginning hint of age. The rifle is fitted with original deluxe,checkered and varnished wood stocks that are also fine to excellent and show a very fancy grain. The interior shows little to no use and no real evidence of firing; an original ramrod is included and the small parts andsprings show bright original blue, the front sight shows its original gold plate, the rear sight shows all of its original blue as does the butt plate. According to sophisticated experts on Springfield Officers’ Models,there were only eight with deluxe burl wood stocks and those were reserved for Generals whose names were known but the recipient of each particular gun is not known.
