Colt Model 1855 First Model percussion Sporting rifle, .36 caliber, 30” barrel, older re-blued finish, wood butt stock, S/N 273; overall good to very good condition as re-finished, crisp action, visible markings,majority of quality re-finish to metal surfaces remaining, good wood stock displaying scattered mars and scratches from carry and display. Accompanied by typewritten notes and letters related to this Colt Sporting rifle that includes letter from Cameron P. Laughlin, Curator of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center confirming this rifle, by serial number, was de-accessioned from the Winchester ArmsCollection of the Cody Firearms Museum in June of 1990. It was sold to benefit the Buffalo bill Historical Center at an auction held Jan. 15, 1991, in New York, by Sotheby’s.
