Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall rifle with ownership documented to “May Lillie” wife of Pawnee Bill and famous Wild West show performer and trick shot in the tradition of Annie Oakley who she competed with and preformed with in Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill shows. 24” octagon barrel in .32 rimfire caliber, S/N 18657. A period engraved silver plaque is affixed to center left of buttstock inscribed “Pawnee Bill, Historic Wild West, To Miss, May Lillie, My Straight Shooter, G.W.L.” (Gordon W. Lillie). A letter dated June 16, 1946 and signed Dr. Christian Meyers accompanies the lot and explains the gifting of this rifle to his father who had attended to May Lillie after a 1936 car wreck. Also a Swords Bros. (Photographers York, PA) carte of Lillie and Pawnee Bill is included with a studded and personalized vintage traveling box and an 1896 show banner, ladies gloves, signed playing card, key with stamped I.D. tag reading “May Lillie, B.B.W.W.S.”. This rifle is in good condition overall. A museum quality display devoted to the #2 lady shooter and performer in the Wild West show era who occasionally out shot Annie Oakley according to legend.
