Ultra-rare Colt 1851 1st Model U.S. marked Navy with wedge over screw variation, S/N 572. Only a handful of U.S. marked 1st model navies exist and are second in rarity only to a “W.A.T.” marked Texas Paterson in the percussion era. These navies may have been intended for the use by the revenue service abroad revenue cutters. We have only seen 3 in nearly 50 years and Colt experts theorize about 10-20 or less known, and possibly as few as 50 made. The 1st model Navy is rarely encountered but the martial marked specimens are exceedingly rare. This revolver remains in good condition showing some cleaning, minor restorations, light recoloring and enlargement of the cylinder stops during the period of use. The barrel address and frame markings are well defined and clear with sharp U.S. The front sight is period change to a blade and post type. The grips are good with some wear, minor imperfections and staining at the left bottom of grip. Shows some pitting on the frame and cleaning on the barrel. 30%-40% dark original silver plate on the straps and all matching visible serial numbers, including the wedge along with a few replaced screws. Although not high condition this is a ultimate Colt and martial collectors rarity. (Antique) $6000-$12,000
