Colt Single Action Army Revolver fully and finely engraved and multicolor gold inlaid by master engraver John Warren signed on ejector rod housing. The barrel measures 7 ½” in .44-40 caliber with blue finish and sating gray frame, S/N 302127 and made in 1907. Gold inlaid No. 2 on top of the serial number at the edge of the frame indicating originally 1 of a pair. This pistol shows finely detailed scrolls with foliate borders in very profuse manner with flush inlaid multi-color raised and flush gold inlays. The left side on the recoil shield shows raised gold inlay of Indian head along with buffalo on loading gate and eagle head in silver on top of the back strap. The lefty frame shows acorns and oak leafs in Germanic style along with fancy scrolling and silver accents. The Colt is fitted with deluxe carved ivory grips showing the intricate carving this artisan was world recognized for. The Colt itself was a 1st generation pre-war with a 7 ½” barrel reading “Colt Frontier Six Shooter” in flush gold. The condition is excellent as restored at the time of embellishment with bright bore showing no evidence of firing since engraving. Extensive documentation accompanies this revolver including Larry Wilson letter, certificate of engraving signed John Warren, sales receipt Sherwood’s Beverly Hills dated 3-24-2008 for $26,000 and detailed appraisal by C. Roger Bleile engraver and official historian for firearms engravers guild of America. All conclude it is a masterpiece of this superb late 20th century engravers work and it was most likely 1 of a pair commissioned by R.Q. Sutherland who was Co-author of “The Book of Colt Firearms” and iconic Colt Collector. See page 274 of Sutherland book for similar pair of 2nd generations and it is this catalogers, John R. Gangel’s, opinion that R.Q. who I knew very well wanted a pair of 1st generation Colts in addition to the 2nd generations he illustrated in his book. A display case is included. A rare opportunity to obtain a magnificent Colt Single Action by this highly desirable master engraver that is superbly and extensively documented. (C& R/No PPT) Est.: $14,000-$28,000
