Burnside 5th Model 1864 saddle ring single shot percussion carbine, .54 caliber, Serial #11291. The carbine is in fine overall condition with a 21” barrel. The metal surfaces retain a significant amount of their military blue finish with vivid nitre blue on the breech block, outside lever and receiver tang. There is light to moderate surface rust noted on the front sight. The receiver itself shows old, toned casehardening with the distinctive 5th Model guide screw on the side of the frame, all matching visible serial numbers and a saddle ring on the left side. The smooth wood stock is in good condition with mars andcompressions consistent with service use. The butt stock has two sharp cartouches on the left side at the wrist and ends with a smooth steel butt plate which is slightly proud at the toe. The bore is very good, the action crisp and the markings are sharp on this desirable Civil War era carbine built on the Burnside Patent. Est.: $900-$1,800. (Antique).
