William Irving (Manufacture by James Reid) .31 caliber, 2nd type brass frame pocket revolver, S/N 1272. These Civil War era pocket size revolver bear a remarkable similarity in design to both Spiller & BurrConfederate revolver and Whitney revolvers. Bill Gary noted author and Confederate pistol expert felt there was a tie in between Spiller & Burr, Whitney, and W. Irving Arms Mfg. revolvers and in his notes on #2 Spiller & Burr with Whitney parts he noted this revolver when in the J.M. Davis Gun Museum. In particular he was fascinated by the bullet shaped cuts where the nipples enters the cylinder as they are almost identical toSpiller & Burr revolvers. A mystery in the gun world yet to be explained. This pistol remains in good condition with light to heavy pitting on the barrel and cylinder. The frame is good with deep patina. The grips are good. Lightly visible address. Action needs repair. (Antique) Est.: $900-$1800
