Full stock Kentucky rifle with fancy pierced and engraved patch box marked “S. Small”. Samuel Small is listed as a maker of percussion rifle from New Lisbon, Columbians County Ohio, 1849-1865 and was known formaking his own barrels. He was son to David Small 1834-37 maker in same area. The rifle is in good to very good overall condition. Deep brown patina with minor erosion and light to moderate scattered pitting mostly at the firing area behind percussion bolster. The stock is good and would have been very good except for large losses of wood at the top edges on each side of the muzzle. Otherwise the stock is very nice. The nipplehas been replaced. The lock is working and is a single trigger. Just the type of rifle to go west in gold rush era and found in Northern California by old collector. (Antique) Est.: $600-1200
