Colt SAA revolver, .45 Colt caliber, 7.5” barrel, nickel finish, wood grips, S/N 18,235 (made in 1875). This immaculate and early Single Action shows italic address and 2-line patent dates. The revolver shows 90-95% original to the period nickel finish. There is flaking and peeling mostly on the cylinder and some minor pitting where the finish has lifted. The nickel is soft and natural with no polishing. The grips are fine to excellent with 95-98%of original varnish and just minimal handling and very slight losses at edges of butt. The screws and small parts show considerable original bright blue; early cylinder pin with hole, correct hammer, ejector and other small parts with all matching numbers and correct ejector rod housing; bright bore and shows little to almost no use. The front sight is its original full height. We do not have a factory letter at point of cataloging and these early nickel Colts almost always letter as blue as Colt Firearms sent them to Ames to be nickled outside the factory in this era and it has been the subject of an article in the Rampant Colt Magazine and is a well-known fact to sophisticated Colt collectors. This Colt was recently discovered in an old San Diego Collection and is fresh to the market. A strong 9 + on a 1-10 scale and very difficult to improve upon in the 1875 early frontier date. (Antique). Est.: $8,000-$16,000.
