Unusual Civil War Cavalry Officer’s variant sword marked “W.H. Horstman and Sons of Philadelphia” in etching on the blade. Two branch brass D shaped guard with sharkskin grip and attractive engraved brass scabbardwith two rings. The slightly curved blade measures 31 ½” with blood groove area showing foliate etching, stands of arms and maker’s name. No foreign marks of proofs. The condition is god plus to very good with light old cleaning to etching and minor erosion and pitting. The etching is slightly light but fully visible. The grip is very good with slight tatters and wear. The scabbard shows dings and dents. Good patina on the brass.Very attractive and a scarce configuration patterned after French swords of this same era. Est.: $750-$1500
