U.S. Springfield Trapdoor Model 1870, .50-70 caliber, Serial #14126. The rifle is in as found condition with a 32” barrel. The metal surfaces have gone to a dark brown patina with a crisp eagle on the side plate dated1863. The breech block is martially marked and dated 1870 with the eagle proof. The stock is in fair condition with gouges, dents, and an old repair at the wrist, missing the ram rod and sling swivelsretained. The butt stock ends with a smooth steel crescent butt plate. One of the first cartridge rifles issued in the Indian Wars, this model was featured prominently at the battle of the Wagon Box. Est.: $175-$350. (Antique).
