U.S. Model 1863 .58 caliber rifled musket, dated 1862. The musket is in good to very good condition with lightly cleaned grey metal, sharp lock markings and minor scattered pitting and erosion. There aresoldier’s initials carved in large block letters “J.L.” between the lock screws and an arsenal type #2 behind the tang. Faint remnants of a cartouche on the stock in good to very good condition with minor dings, mars and scratches. There is some dark rust and pitting on the butt. The action is good with the ramrod retained. The muzzle shows no visible rifling with it either having been bored or shot out. Est.: $600-$1,200.(Antique).
