William Smith Birmingham S x S 12 bore hammer double rifle, Serial #NSNV. The rifle is in fine overall condition with 26” steel barrels with a full-length hand filed rib and three-leaf folding rear sights. The barrels are a dark brown patina with light surface erosion. The receiver is tight on face with a Jones Under lever action, rebounding external hammers and extractors. The receiver has gone to silver/grey with 90%coverage in fine scroll engraving, long tang and engraved screw heads. The finely checkered English Walnut stock is massive, features a pancake cheek piece and ends with a smooth steel butt plate providing a 14 ½”LOP. The bores are fully rifled with strong bores with light pitting in places. William Smith of 110 Lancaster, Birmingham, England was in business from 1846-1890. An outstanding example of a 19th century working gun showing the fine work Birmingham gunsmiths were known for creating. Est.: $2,000-$4,000. (Antique).
