German mining official’s sword circa 1890-1918. Slightly curved nickeled blade has single fuller. Marked “G.Wollner & Co // Berlin”-retailer. Triple acid etched blade has spine with floral motif. Both sides ofthe slightly curved blade are acid etched with "Gluck Auf" [Good Luck] a traditional miners’ greeting, with panoply of arms. Blade has spots of discoloration throughout. Dove head style hilt has a pierced guard and is elaborately decorated with German Empire coat of arms over miner’s tools with laurel leaf motif. The tang button is elaborately cast with leaf motif. Back strap decorated with miner’s tools and acorn and leaf motif. Sharkskin covered shaped wood grip is torn on both sides under the slightly dented pommel, and has replacement triple wire wrap. The painted metal scabbard contains two brass suspension mounts with rings. Brasschape and top of D-guard show repairs. Blade is 33” long and 38½” overall. Est.: $250-$500
