Sharps Extra Heavy Barrel Rifle in .50-140 caliber weighing approximately 16 lbs. total and marked beneath the fore end "W.C.D." with eagle, S/N 45727 and #62375. This barrel shows old reliable and Bridgeport address on top with factory cal marking "45 2 7/8" and Lawrence marked rear sight with large blade western style front sight. #14E on the back of the action and #C52375. A theory concludes this rifle is that Walter Cooper and Davenport assembled the last parts from the factory for use in Montana and the west. The action number was originally a military rifle shipped to Kitteridge in Cincinnati. A research folder is included from consignor. This rifle shows a 30" barrel and measures 1 1/4" across the center. Double set triggers. Patina finish with scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion. The butt stock shows a nailed repair around the rear of the action with many dings, mars and scratches. The action is good and the bore is bright with strong rifling. Modern British proofs on the bottom barrel. Recently returned to America from a large British collector's estate. (Antique) Est.: $8,000-$16,000
