French Napoleonic era Officer's pistol marked "Manufacture a Versailles" on the lock with "Ent. de Boutet" in script on the barrel. Boutet was the supervisor of the Versailles Arsenal during the Napoleonic era and thistype pistol was available to officers of rank with corrections in variety of grades and with or without decorations. This example is plain and shows a 8 1/4" barrel and 14" overall with simple brass mount and plainwalnut stock. Good markings and lightly cleaned metal surfaces. .69 caliber smoothbore. Small "D" proof at the breech end of the barrel. The wood is with light refinish and 1 1/2" loss of wood at the topfront edge of the stock about 1/16" to 1/10" tapered silver. Boutet's works have fetched the highest prices recorded on antique firearms and this is an entry level example of a desirable Napoleonic pistol. (Antique)Est.: $1400-$2800
