The original 39-inch blade of flattened diamond section with 7-inch central fuller is marked with a crown over T for the renowned German blademaker Clemens Tesche the Elder 1580-1627, Weyersberg, Solingen. the "Running Wolf" is struck on the left side within the fuller. The swept hilt of classic "riding sword" form of russet iron with flattened bars, recurved quillons, lower ring guard, upper ring guard and inner loop guardsurmounted by its spirally fluted ovoid pommel. The hilt is decorated throughout with silver encrusted designs of scrolling leafy tendrils and flowers enhanced with silver pellets. the decoration is relief inlaid into the iron not Damascened. The pommel is decorated en suite. The grip is bound with plaited silver wire between "Turk's Heads". this splendid sword measures 44 and 1/2 inches overall and weighs 2 pounds and 4.5ounces and balances perfectly 3 and 1/2 inches forward of the ricasso. condition of the blade shows age and use with some wear. The decoration of the hilt is excellent with the relief-encrusted silver retaining most of
