Plains Indian used pipe tomahawk with original shaft and provenance to David Kerstetter who picked up said tomahawk on the Fetterman Battlefield circa 1866. This tomahawk was first sold out of the family in1996 when sold by Little John’s to our consignor. The tomahawk is accompanied by a letter from Paul E, Roch Sr. (1996 dated) telling of Kerstetter’s history in the west. A 1917 dated Canton Daily News article tellsof Kerstetter’s western service. (The family letter confuses the Fetterman massacre with Custer massacre that occurred 10 years later. Physical description: Measures 8” from the tip to the bowl and early 19th century tradetype with deep patina. The shaft measures 22 ¼” from the tip to the end. The condition is good with age cracks, bites to bit and leather gasket holding the head has deteriorated causes slipping. Est.:$3000-$6000
