Ornate Antique Wheelock pistol with fancy pierced steel butt and unusual styling and work throughout attributed by Theodore Dexter as Portuguese with Frank Bivens #13 painted in the stock (Front of the guard). Measures30 ½” overall with a 18 3/8” barrel of approximately .62 caliber smoothbore. Unidentified marking and proofs partially visible on the breech. Good metal surfaces with some light cleaning. The trigger isnicely chiseled and pierced. The stock is good to very good but may be 19th century. The mechanism is intact and complete. The style and work we feel is more Italian than Portuguese none the less a large andimpressive Wheelock with illustration in Dexter’s scrapbook. (Antique) Est.: $3500-$7000
