Pair of Exhibition Grade Dueling Target pistols showing gold and silver inlay with fancy etching and unusual combination of fine ornamentation. The pair are unsigned and undoubtedly made on order with hand engraved vignette of nobleman at the center of each lock. The locks are richly engraved with gold borders and accents. The barrels are gold inlaid Acier Fondu with extensive gold line and scroll bordering along with acid etching. The trigger guards show portrait etched at the center (Possibly Cardinal Richelieu). The guards are blued and gold inlaid. The stocks are ornately carved with silver wire. Measures 17” overall with 10 ¾” barrels of .50 caliber rifled. French style cased with all original accessories. French gray or satin finish in very good plus to near fine condition. Minor aging and minimal imperfections. Completely sharp and crisp metal. Velvet lined box almost excellent. The exterior of the case shows brass mounts and is a select mahogany or walnut with minor scratches and also very good to near fine. In over 50 year of selling and collecting this type cased set. I have never seen another set with this combination of fancy embellishments. The identity of the small portrait at the center of locks will be key to researching this outstanding set which is classic French in style. (Antique) Est.: $6,000-$12,000
