Model 1840 Artillery sabre with steel scabbard. The sabre is marked, Ames and dated 1863. The sabre is 37 ½” in total length with a 32” blade. The blade is in very good condition showing significantoriginal polish, a few small dents in the cutting edge and no sharpening, marked D.R and dated 1863 at the ricasso with a faint Ames marking on the reverse. The brass handguard has taken on a pleasing taffypatina marked, “73” rack marks on both sides and “DR”. The grip is wire wrapped leather and in very good condition with the brass pommel marked, “52”. The scabbard is a dark patina with a couple of small dents and thehangers are retained. A nice Civil War era sabre with a good look to it. Est.: $400-$800.
