Finely and fully engraved parade shield in Italian style of 16th-17th century. 6 very well and detailed center panels of knights and ancient warriors wearing armor with swords and weapons. 3 beasts around edge onewith tongue sticking out in contempt. Deep cut floral engraving bordering rim. Shows lamination and forging by armourer with proper rivets and forging. The center spike is missing and some flaws to metal from ageor use. A few 19th century masters could make this quality armour at a very high price. Several experts disagree as to the age of this piece but all agree it would cost tens of thousands to replicate and is over 100years old. Measures 23 ¼” across center and weighs approximately 7 lbs. Brought to America in approximately 1900 by the family of Dr. Leon A Dale and obtained from his estate. Note: Signature or date at the top of one panel which we cannot decipher. Est.: $5,000-$10,000+++
